Four men detained 10 hours after theft

MIRI: Less than 10 hours after a liquor store in Morsjaya was burglarised and items worth more than RM24,000 were carted away by thieves, police detained four men for their alleged involvement in the incident.

According to Miri police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari, the suspects aged 26 to 41 were arrested in three separate locations here during an operations codenamed ‘Ops Pintu’ which was carried out from 6.30pm to 8pm.

During the operations, police also seized several items believed to have been used in the incident, including two vehicles and the tools used to break into the premises.

It was made to understand that the incident was discovered by a store worker around 7am on Monday, who later on alerted his boss.

Five cartons of cigarettes of various brands and 250 cartons of beer were reported to be stolen.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had gained access into the premises after breaking the padlock of the front door.

The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code.
