KUALA LUMPUR: Four new faces have been drafted into the 30-member national men’s senior hockey squad under chief coach Arul Selvaraj.

Those making their debut in the national team are goalkeeper Muhamad Shafie Sahrom, defender Zulpidaus Mizun, midfielder Pavandip Singh and striker Nur Rahul Hrisikesa Mohd Murni Tatchana.

“I’m giving them a chance with the national squad because of their commitment and desire to improve further. Goalkeeper Muhamad Shafie in particular has impressed me.

“As for the others selected, they have good work ethics on and off the field and dare to scale greater heights. That is my main focus,” Arul told a virtual news conference here today.

Sensational striker Faizal Saari has been retained in the squad while Fitri Saari has been dropped.

“I had spoken to Fitri before the selection about what was required of him. He hasn’t impressed me and is not in my plan unless he can show a drastic improvement in the National Hockey League,” he added.

Arul believed he had chosen the best available and is looking forward to the resumption of national training on Nov 9.
