SELANGAU: A total of RM50,000 has been allocated to four Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) branches including a Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS) branch from the state’s central region.

The financial assistance was announced by Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira Sambang during the SDNU Selangau Pre-Christmas celebration dinner held at the Selangau Multipurpose Hall on Friday (Dec 18).

The branches that received the allocation were SDNU Selangau of RM30,000 followed by SDNU Sibu, SDNU Mukah, SDNU Sibu Jaya and SIDS Mukah which each received RM5,000.

Apart from that, SDNU Selangau has also received a three-acre piece of land donated by former Tamin assemblyman Datuk Joseph Mauh Ikeh for the use of the union for any related development.

Gira in his speech advised SDNU members to be more active in community activities in their respective branches in order to play a significant role in the Dayak community.

SDNU has been an ‘umbrella’ for the Dayak community since its establishment far in the past, he explained.

“Continue the objectives and vision of SDNU so that it stays relevant to the current world situation. Defend our union to continue serving the Dayak community in this state.

“I hope with the allocations given, it will, to some extent, assist the respective branches to serve the Dayak community,” he said.

A total of 200 people attended the event organised by SDNU Selangau branch.
