SEREMBAN: The Negeri Sembilan government today launched a free bus shuttle service in Seremban City which would start its operation tomorrow.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said the free bus service was the first service of its kind in the state.
“The bus service is aimed at providing free transport services as well as helping to encourage the people to use the public transport services and to alleviate the burden of the less fortunate. It could also help to reduce the use of private vehicles that contribute to traffic congestion and environmental pollution.
“This programme is provided by the state government in collaboration with Syarikat Cityliner Sdn Bhd who provides two buses for the free service around Seremban,” he told reporters after the launching ceremony of 2019 Seremban City Bus Free service at Terminal 1 here today.
Also present were State Secretary Datuk Dr Razali Ab Malik, State Assembly Speaker Datuk Zulkefly Mohamad Omar and state Urban Wellbeing, Housing, Local Government and New Villages Committee chairman Teo Kok Seong.
Aminuddin said the operation of the bus service would start from 5.45am to 8.45pm daily with the trip frequency of every half an hour to reach the bus stops.
He said the NS People’s Service bus would start at the KM Plaza, Seremban North Post Office, Seremban Wet Market, Haji Shariff Cendol, Wisma Negeri, Seremban Municipal Council, Seremban KWSP, Tuanku Jaafar Hospital, Seremban Health Clinic and Seremban KTM station.
“We are launching this free bus service in Seremban city to see its response. We will study its effectiveness and necessity. This is a free service that will benefit all people in the city.
“If this free bus service receives a good response we will consider expanding it to other districts. The state government has allocated RM300,000 for this free bus service this year,” he added. – Bernama
