Free health screening for Telang Usan folks

MIRI: Nearly 200 people from the Telang Usan Constituency yesterday converged at Dynasty Hotel here for a free health screening programme via the PeKa B40, an initiative mooted by the federal government.

The programme was hosted by PBB-GPS Telang Usan women wings.

Telang Usan Assemblyman Dennis Ngau, when met at the programme, said although it was an initiative mooted under the Pakatan Harapan (PH), Gabungan Parti Sarawak was not taking sides when it come to the people’s well-being, especially on healthcare and education.

“GPS is not taking sides. The rakyat will be deprived if we take sides,” he reckoned.

He said the rakyat should grab the opportunity and benefit from the programme. Hence, together with PBB-GPS Telang Usan women wings, they have come up with the idea to organise the healthcare screening programme.

Dennis stressed that both the federal and state governments were equally responsible in matters pertaining to education and healthcare.

“For Telang Usan, I wanted the people, especially those in the rural areas, to have a better healthcare services and access to education, and for this programme (PeKa B40 today) I want them to gain benefit from it, even though I am a GPS wakil rakyat,” he said.

Also present at yesterday’s event were Temenggong Elizabeth Ding and PBB-Telang Usan women wing’s Marget Nawan.

Majority of the crowds, when met by the New Sarawak Tribune, lauded the efforts.

An 89-year-old Payak Jau Ajang from Long Bedian and her son-in-law Njok Anyi, 64, were excited to take part in the programme.

“I came all the way from Long Bedian for this programme,” said Payak.
