Free helmets for 30 motorcyclists

KUCHING: Road Safety Council (RSC) Kuching distributed 30 helmets to motorcyclists through its road safety campaign in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration at Petronas Station, Telaga Tiga, here yesterday.

The helmets were a contribution from the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso).

According to the Director of Sarawak Road Safety Department Davina Agnes Enteli, the annual programme is to raise the awareness of road safety during festive seasons.

“Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) statics showed from 1 January to 15 June, this year, the accident rate increased by 1.8 per cent compared to the corresponding period  last year.

“However, the death rate went down as compared to the corresponding period last year,” Davina told reporters yesterday.

Also present  were Director of Sarawak State Perkeso Philip Sangkan, Retail Sales Manager Sarawak Petronas Patrick Lenggang and a representative of Road Transport Department (JPJ) director Haji Nezriman Uthman.
