2020 State Budget

The Sarawak government will introduce a free school bus service next year to students within Kuching City.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said the bus service would be of convenience to students.

“It will be based on the ‘hop-on hop-off’ concept where students can hop on the bus at any point along the route and then hop off at their respective schools,” he said.

Abang Johari said this when tabling the 2020 State Budget during the State Legislative Assembly sitting yesterday.

He said the government recognised the financial burdens faced by low-income families in urban areas in meeting transportation costs to school.

“This service will also help to ease traffic congestion in the city area.

“This will be our pilot initiative and will be introduced to other densely populated cities in Sarawak when the need arises,” he explained.
