Free screening for people in Mador Cluster

MERADONG: In view of the Covid-19 cluster named Mador Cluster being declared, the health officers from Sarikei, Bintangor and Sibu Division had conducted free Covid-19 screening for the community here.

The one-day screening took place at the Bintangor Market on Sunday (Jan 3).

Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing said about 905 people have been screened from 8.30am until 4.15pm.

“We have captured our target of those from Rh Junis, Rh Cherida, market traders and the general community,” he told New Sarawak Tribune on Sunday.

He said Bintangor Health Clinic will continue to carry out swab test from Monday (Jan 4) onwards.

“The community are encouraged to come forward to do the swab test as a precaution,” he said.

In the meantime, he also thanked the community for their cooperation and the frontliners involved especially medical staff, those from Meradong District Office, the police, People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela), Civil Defence Force (APM) for ensuring the screening goes smoothly.

“We pray that there is no more surge in the numbers of positive cases,” said Ding.

He added that the Bintangor Market is safe for the public and urged the public to continue to strictly follow the standard operating procedures (SOPs).

The Mador Cluster was identified on Jan 2 involving Meradong and Sibu District. The Index case for this cluster is Case 1,115 that were detected on Dec 30 as a result of the Covid-19 entry screening upon returning from Peninsular Malaysia.
