KUCHING: Krian assemblyman Friday Belik wants several roads and bridges in the constituency to be upgraded.
He said although most parts of Krian are connected by road, there are still many roads that need to be upgraded, namely Jalan Ulu Sebetan (leading to four longhouses and one primary school), Jalan Ulu Awik (7km) which need to be tar-sealed and Jalan Mudong Kop-Ibus/Nanga Ibus (leading to three longhouse).
“Meanwhile, there are some bridges also in need of attention namely a replacement of the suspension bridge at Rh Pundul, Tanjong to SK Lubok Kepayang, Awik, construction of I-Beam bridge at Sg Isu, Ng Maras/Pillai and replacement of few bridges along the feeder road in Awik, Brayang, Kabo, Ulu Krian/Ulu Gerenjang,” he said.
He said this in his debate speech on the Supply Bill (2023) 2022 during the third day of the 19th State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting on Wednesday (Nov 23).
On education, Friday said under Strategic Thrust 5 (Developing Human Capital), Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has puts empahasis on it as a critical element in human capital development for Sarawak.
“It is always my dream to see that rural children will excel in their study like their urban or city counterparts.
“I had visited a few schools and it is sad to see the conditions of the classrooms, hostels and teachers’ quarters.
“Therefore, I urge the relevant agencies to look into ways and means how the state government can assist to improve the situation so that these young children can also enjoy better learning facilities and eventually able to excel in their studies,” he said.
He mentioned so far until this year, out of 28 schools in Krian, only four had been approved under the Industrialised Building System (IBS) for dilapidated schools and 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK12).
“Besides that, to ensure our youth, especially those who are not interested in continuing to a higher level, I propose a Technical Training Institution or Centre be built in Saratok/Krian to provide technical training opportunities to our youth,” he said.
