Frontliners, leaders in Bintulu get first dose of vaccine

BINTULU: Bintulu Resident Jack Aman Luat is the first individual in the division to receive the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine on Saturday (Mar 6).

The first phase of the immunisation programme was conducted in Sri Kenyalang Hall, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Bintulu Campus.

The first-phase Covid-19 vaccine recipients also include Bintulu Health Officer Dr Melvin Chung, Bintulu police chief Supt Zulkipli Suhaili, Kakus assemblyman Datuk John Sikie Tayai, Samalaju assemblyman Majang Renggi, Tanjung Batu assemblyman Chiew Chin Sing, Bintulu District Officer Muhammad Dino Amid, Sebauh District Officer William Manggoi, Tatau District Officer Barayan Lenya and Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) general manager Muhamad Yakup Kari.

Dr Chung said the first phase involved a total of 414 frontliners from the Ministry of Health (MOH) and other government agencies.

He added that the vaccination programme was implemented for two days — from Saturday (Mar 6) to today (Mar 7) — in Bintulu district including Sebauh with 366 recipients while another 48 were allocated to Tatau district.

The second phase of vaccine is expected to begin on March 19.
