AIDI responds to reporters’ questions on the four Indonesian women who tested positive for Covid-19 and had exited Sarawak by bus on Wednesday.

Foreigners tested positive

KUCHING: Police will thoroughly investigate an alleged agent that helped four Indonesian women who were looking for jobs in Sibu and who later tested positive for Covid-19.

Sarawak Commissioner of Police (CP) Datuk Aidi Ismail earlier confirmed the foreigners were now in Entikong, West Kalimantan. They boarded a bus on Wednesday from Sibu to the location, he said.

“The (alleged) agent is now placed under quarantine by the Health Ministry (MoH) at Kemuyang Youth Camp. Maybe later (after the quarantine period), we will question the person on the matter, who claims to not know the women but just helped them.

“There is a possibility that this person might not admit it (to know them) but we will conduct an investigation to find out whether this individual is really a land agent or just a helper as claimed to be,” Aidi said when met by reporters after Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin officiated at ‘Ops Selamat’ in conjunction with the Christmas festive season at Boulevard Shopping Mall, here.

It was said that one of the Indonesians used a foreign number to contact the woman, who accompanied them to take the PCR swab test at a medical centre, to inform her that they were now in Entikong.

Following that, Aidi said police were now tracking the number used to find out whether the call was made in Sarawak or in Entikong. However, it is believed that the call was made when the foreigners went past the border.

“Apart from that, MoH had also been informed about the bus used to transport the women. It is currently tracking the bus and will find out who else the women come across with from the route to the border.

“It is believed that the women exited Sarawak via a rat trail (jalan tikus),” he said.
