KUCHING: The setting up an Anjung Usahawan facility in rural areas would enable lesser known products to be marketed at a larger marketspace, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said.
He said it also complemented other development projects introduced by the state government in the interiors such as improving road connectivity as well as supplying clean water and electricity.
“The Anjung Usahawan is to provide opportunities to the community to involve themselves in processing as we have a lot of resources at our disposal.
“The resources that we have can be processed into value-added products and this will improve the income of rural dwellers in small and medium sized industries,” he said when officiating at an Anjung Usahawan programme in Gedong on Saturday.
Awang Tengah who is also International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal and Entrepreneur Development Minister said Gedong has a big potential for development.
“With better roads, we can shorten the travel time to Serian and Kuching and maybe the people of Gedong can have their breakfast in Serian. It also enables the people to promote their products.
“Even being in the rural area, the prospect of promoting their products to a larger marketplace remains possible,” he said.
