MIRI: Miri police yesterday smashed a shop burglary and housebreaking gang with the arrest of its ringleader and his three members.

The four, aged from 19 to 38, were rounded up during an operation held at around 5.05am.

Several stolen items including two outboard engines were   seized.

The ringleader was involved in the recent robbery of an office container in Sepupok , Niah. RM31,000 in cash vanished in the Thursday morning incident.

His two accomplices in the robbery, however, are still at large.

The office deals with oil palm smallholders and purchases their fruits. The missing cash was supposed to be used to pay for the oil palm fruits.

Yesterday’s operation was led by Inspector Fredly Juing.

According to sources, the four suspects have been actively involved in a series of house-breaking cases and shop burglaries.

At least 19 cases are considered solved with their arrest.

The case is being investigated under Section 395 and Section 397 for gang robbery.
