KUCHING: The Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) will organise a “Ijtimak” religious gathering from Oct 31 to Nov 1 with the aim of strengthening the management and administration of the mosque and surau management committees.

Themed “Masjid 5 Bintang — Pengurusan Berprestij”, the event will be participated by the mosque and surau management committees of Kuching, Samarahan and Serian divisions.

“Apart from strengthening the understanding of the role of the mosque as a centre for community development in various aspects of knowledge, this programme will also clarify the concept of ‘mukim’ as an effort to strengthen the capacity of the Muslim community.

“At the same time, it can also indirectly strengthen the relationship between mosque and surau management committees with government and private agencies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) through strong, effective and efficient cooperation,” said Assistant Minister in the Chief Department Minister (Islamic Affairs and DBKU) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi in a press conference here, yesterday.
