MIRI: A 42-year-old man, sustained multiple cuts and bruises after being attacked by at least eight men at a Gawai Dayak Bazaar in Permyjaya last Monday night.

According to sources, the victim has been identified as the bazaar’s coordinator cum president of Gagasan Anak Dayak Sarawak (GADS), Vicky Gulin Shandom.

The victim was said to have been kicked, punched and hit with sticks and liquor bottle by the attackers.

Following the incident, the victim was rushed to Miri Hospital.

A police report on the attack has been lodged at Lutong police station.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the attack happened after the assailants became frustrated when their request to perform at the bazaar on May 2 was KIV-ed (keep-in-view) was the activity/programme schedule for that day was full.

They were told that the organisers would discuss other slots and date for their performance.

Enraged, they confront the bazaar’s coordinator around 8.40pm.

Prior to the attack, Vicky and five working committee members were meeting under a canopy near the bazaar’s stage.

The assault case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting with the use of weapons.
