KUALA LUMPUR: Construction services firm GDB Holdings Berhad secured its first contract in East Malaysia to build the Hyatt Centric hotel in Kota Kinabalu for a provisional contract value of RM213.3 million.

The group, via its wholly owned subsidiary Grand Dynamic Builders Sdn Bhd, executed the Letter of Intent from Sunhill Ventures Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hap Seng Consolidated Berhad, to undertake construction works for the 5-star Hyatt Centric hotel.

The latest award is GDB’s second contract won from Hap Seng, having secured the 26-storey Menara Hap Seng 3 in Kuala Lumpur City Centre in 2017, the company said in a statement yesterday.

Cheah Ham Cheia, group managing director of GDB Holdings Berhad said, “This award extends our reach to East Malaysia and further solidifies our place as one of the leading high-rise builders in the country.

“With this new contract, we have secured new jobs worth RM865.3 million year-to-date. Together with GDB’s order book as at June 30 2019, our outstanding order book stands at approximately RM1.2 billion to be recognised over the next three years.”

The duration of the contract will be for 22.5 months, to commence on January 2 2020 and scheduled for completion on November 16 2021. The parties shall enter into a formal Letter of Award for the contract works upon the finalisation of Bills of Quantities and awarded contract value.

The group’s other ongoing projects are the AIRA Residence in Damansara Heights, Menara Hap Seng 3 within the Kuala Lumpur city centre, Perla Ara Sentral in Ara Damansara and Park Regent in Desa ParkCity.

In line with best-in-class standards of Hyatt and Hap Seng, the Hyatt Centric Kota Kinabalu was designed by world-renowned Japanese architect, Kengo Kuma. His design took inspiration from the lush green hills and blue ocean surrounding the hotel.

The hotel will feature 222 guestrooms, an all-day lounge and restaurant, more than 1,900 sq ft of meeting space, a rooftop swimming pool and bar with views of the South China Sea, and a fitness centre.
