KUCHING: Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) is eyeing to contest in seven parliamentary seats in the upcoming 15th general election (GE15).

Its president, Voon Lee Shan said the seats are Mas Gading, Puncak Borneo, Lanang, Bintulu, Bandar Kuching, Stampin and another one rural seat, which has yet to be confirmed.

He said the party has announced Sim Min Leong for Mas Gading, who will be using the PBK logo.

“Meanwhile, in Puncak Borneo we have Tomson Ango, PBK secretary general Priscilla Lau to stand in Lanang and Leighton Manjah (Bintulu) – they will be using the PSB logo to contest.

“As for Bandar Kuching and Stampin, we have to decide very carefully on who will be the candidate. Now we have three potential candidates namely Patrick Teo, Lue Cheng Hing and myself,” he said in a press conference at his legal firm here today.

He added that PBK will announce the candidates for both Bandar Kuching and Stampin seats at the “right time” soon.

“Besides, we have yet to decide for another seat, which is in a rural area, so overall we have seven seats,” he said.

He stressed that PBK will go down to fight, with their slogan of ‘To Restore Sarawak’ in this election.

“After dissolution of parliament, we went around the marketplace and have received feedback from the public that they want to see local opposition parties to team up in the next polls.

“The local opposition lost in the last state election because they couldn’t cooperate. That’s what they said.

“With that they are looking forward to us fighting under one banner. They don’t care which party banner, as long as it’s a local opposition party.

“Thus, PBK decided to use the PSB symbol to contest in the election except for Mas Gading. The voters are very happy with that, and we also found out that they are not very happy with the West Malaysia opposition party,” he said.

When asked on why Mas Gading alone is still using PBK logo, Voon explained that the candidate Sim, has been campaigning with PBK logo all this while even before PBK had any collaboration with other parties.

“Therefore, we would not want to create any confusion on this matter,” he said.
