GEDONG: A total of 45 fishermen from the Gedong Fishermen’s Association recently received compensation to replace their losses due to the collapse of the Tradewind Bridge last year.

The handover was made by the Premier’s special representative Datuk Naroden Majais at the Gedong District Office meeting room.

Naroden, in his speech, thanked the manager of Ladang Gemilang, representing Tradewinds Plantation Management Sdn Bhd, for the provision.

“I hope that with this financial assistance it could help to ease the burden of the fishermen, especially during the upcoming Syawal,” he said.

He added that the compensation totalling RM39,450 will be divided into two categories, namely deep sea fishermen and coastal fishermen.

The bridge, which collapsed on July 18, 2022, was the main route for fishermen to go to farms, villages, and the main river.

The collapse of the bridge impacted the fishermen’s daily activities.

Besides that, Naroden also said that he will request an allocation of RM10,000 from Gedong assemblyman, who is also the Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, to support the activities of fishermen in the area.
