
DUN DEPUTY SPEAKER
KUCHING: Mulu assemblyman Datuk Gerawat Gala was sworn in as Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) deputy speaker for a second four-year term on Thursday.
He took his oath of office before the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud at the Astana Negeri Sarawak here.
The ceremony began with Gerawat receiving his letter of appointment and was followed by the swearing-in session.
Gerawat, who is of Kelabit descent and comes from Bario, has held the position of Sarawak DUN deputy speaker for four years before this.
Also present were Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, State Cabinet ministers and other dignitaries.
The swearing-in ceremony was held in accordance with the standard operating procedure (SOP) set to reduce the risk of Covid-19 transmission.
