Get help for ruined crops

KUCHING: The village safety and development committees (JKKKs) in the Mulu constituency have urged to help villagers  report crops that were lost during the recent floods.

Mulu assemblyman Datuk Gerawat Gala said JKKKs should inform the nearest  district office so that the affected farmers could get help.

“Although we know that floods are a natural phenomenon,  the government is always concerned and will help the affected population not only during floods, but also other natural disasters,” he said in a Facebook post on Thursday (Jan 28).

Gerawat also thanked the Fire and Services Department, Marudi district office and the Marudi Social Welfare Department (JKM) for heeding his call to distribute food aid to flood victims in Mulu recently.

“The Marudi and Mulu Fire Brigade volunteers have worked hard to help the families affected by the floods. I appreciate their dedication to ensure the operation was successful,” he said.

Gerawat also hoped that residents who were affected by floods would keep their valuables and important documents safe.

“Also be careful with the switches and sources of electrical power in homes to prevent unwanted incidents,” he added.
