KOTA SAMARAHAN: The coronavirus pandemic should not be used as an excuse by parents to neglect their children’s education, said Rubiah Wang.
The Kota Samarahan MP pointed out that parents should always follow their children’s education development especially those involved in major exams this year.
“We are aware that the new school session has already started today. However, due to the sharp increase in Covid-19 cases, only students involved in public exams are allowed to go to school.
“Parents should not be complacent and should always be aware of their children’s education in line with the government’s efforts to produce more quality human capital,” she said at the handover of food aid to flood victims organised by the Sarawak Administrative and Diplomatic Services Association (PPTD) at Dewan Suarah Kota Samarahan here.
Rubiah also reminded the public, especially those living in Kota Samarahan, to always look out for flood warnings in their respective areas.
“Although there are no more temporary evacuation centres open, we need to always be vigilant because rain is expected to fall throughout this month.
“To the flood victims, do not worry because government agencies such as the Divisional Disaster Management Committee will always provide support and assistance to you,” she said, advising flood victims to make records and police reports so that any claim process could be done promptly.
Commenting on the increase in Covid-19 cases, she called on everyone to continue to comply with standard operating procedures, and to adapt to the new norm in order to break the Covid-19 chain.
At the event, 108 flood victims from Kota Samarahan, Simunjan and Sadong Jaya received aid.
Also present were Federal State Secretary and PPTD president Datuk Mohd Shahabuddin Omar as well as Samarahan Resident Brahim Lumpu.
