SIBU: Those intending to start food business, be they coffee shop or other eateries, are reminded to obtain a licence from Sibu Municipal Council (SMC).

SMC Chairman, Datuk Tiong Thai King said that this licence is besides the trade licence from the District Office.

He said the council had already compounded unlicensed food outlets but not all such illegal operators have been wiped out.

“Many operators are found to have failed renewing their licences under the Miscellaneous Licence Act Amendment Order 2015 include licenses issued to food outlets and hawkers.

“The council views this as a serious violation of the licensing conditions. Licenses which are not renewed will be deemed lapse after 42 days and we will not hesitate to take compounding action against the operators, which will require them to cease trading,” he said at SMC council meeting here recently.

Warning the offenders of stern action, he requested the operators to obtain Trade Licence, Tea and Coffee Licence as well as Foodshop Licence.
