KUCHING: Sarawak is in very capable and safe hands, says Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) veteran Datuk Peter Minos.

“After hearing the Premier at PBB’s official convention opening, I could not help but feel that Sarawak is in very capable, reliable and competent hands.

“Based on what he has so far planned and done in the last five years, the speech was definitely not an exercise in mere talking or pleasing the PBB crowd.

“Mark my words, all what the Premier said will come true and will see fruition. One can be that confident of the man,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Minos was reacting to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s address at the opening of PBB’s 15th Triennial General Meeting (TGM) here over the weekend.

Minos said Sarawak’s revenue will increase by billions like what has happened in the last five years.

The people of Sarawak can be certain of that, he added, pointing out Abang Johari’s financial engineering is superb.

“The new industries, now planned, will surely meet success, whether hydrogen-related, energy-based, health-based, carbon-storage based or whatever.

“Somehow the Premier seems to get new big things planned and done. He has that uncanny ability,” he said.

Minos pointed out that roads, bridges, autonomous rail transit (ART), ports and other types of public utilities will be done when the Premier promised they will be done.

Promises made and promises kept, Minos said, is the Premier’s way and style.

The Premier stands very firm in fighting for Sarawak, from getting the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) powers to telling the federal government that English will be used in Sarawak besides Bahasa Melayu, he said.

“Reflect how he fought Petronas legally for more funds for Sarawak and how he set up Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) against those in Kuala Lumpur, he is a fighter indeed, for Sarawak.

“It is “Sarawak First” in action.

“An idea man and a leader of innovation and initiative, see how he set up the regional agencies for speedier and more coordinated development, how he brought in foreign investors and so on, so forth,” he added.

Minos felt the Premier may next totally revamp the civil service and make it more efficient and effective with reduced red tape or set up agricultural hubs so that much more food is locally produced.

Or a rail link from Samatan to Lawas, or more new industries based on oil palm and rubber as well as a Sarawak/Borneo airline serving not only Sarawak but Kalimantan, Sabah and Brunei as well.

“You can never tell what the man can think of or is capable of achieving. Just amazing. Just great.”
