KUCHING: A ghost ship capsized off Pulau Satang near here last Saturday evening.

Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Sarawak assistant operations director Dzulfikhar Ali said the agency received information about it from an angler at 2.20pm.

In the statement, Dzulfikhar also said there was no sign of any person on or in the vicinity of the vessel.

Maritime Rescue and Search Centre (MRSC) Kuching contacted Santubong police station to obtain information about the incident and was told that no report had been made regarding the incident.

As such, navigational telex’ (NavTex) broadcast was requested from the Marine Department to notify other vessels near the location.

It is learned that no MMEA vessel could go to the site due to bad weather. However, a smaller boat will be deployed.

Dzulfikhar added that the agency was still gathering information about the incident and identify the owner of the vessel.

“For the moment, no search and rescue operation has been activated,” he said.

Dzulfikhar also noted that the Royal Malaysia Police Air Operations Force will deploy their aircraft from Miri to Kuching to survey and monitor the location where the vessel capsized.
