KAPIT: Folks in Kapit have been urged to give Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg another five years to lead Sarawak, in order to ensure development in Kapit Division continues.

Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri James Jemut Masing said Abang Johari had assured that he would allocate funds for development here, but in return, the people must also give their full support.

“Therefore, Sir (Abang Johari), the people in Kapit will give you the assistance that you need, we will support you so that we can further bring development to Kapit and the whole of Sarawak,” he said at a dinner at Kapit Civic Centre, Sunday evening (Oct 4).

“Thank you very much for building the 110km Sibu-Kapit road. I am sure the people in Kapit appreciate it and when the time comes, we will help you (Abang Johari), and make sure that you will be here for another five years.”

Masing, who is also the Upper Rajang Development Agency (URDA) chairman, said state development was divided into three regions, namely under Urda, Highland Development Agency (HDA), and Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA).

“However, in terms of size, Urda is in charge of developing 81,000 square kilometres (area), and that is one third the size of Sarawak, compared to HDA (18,000 square km) and NRDA (14,000 square km).

“Therefore, we need more funds to develop the area under URDA on top of the initial RM1.5 billion that has been allocated.”

The Baleh assemblyman said thanks to the RM1.5 billion, various development projects such as roads, utilities and more had been implemented.

“These are all approved by the Chief Minister for us in Kapit, to allow us to develop so that we will not be left behind from the rest of Sarawak.”

The Parti Raykat Sarawak president also advised the people in Kapit against being influenced by unscrupulous parties.
