MIRI: Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS) Baru has urged the Sarawak government to give priority to Sarawakian teachers to address shortage in the state.

PBDS Baru treasurer Sai Malaka, in a statement on Tuesday (May 11), expressed full support to the state’s 90:10 ratio of local teachers, while calling for the state government to have clear planning on the matter.

He said the Sarawak Education Department should take a firm stand on the matter to restore Sarawak’s education autonomy as stated in the Malaysia Agreement 1963.

“It has been the cause of the dilapidated school situation in Sarawak, which needs immediate attention, as well as the shortage of teachers here.

“The Sarawak government uses the ‘Sarawak First’ slogan but it must prove this with action, and less talk.”

PBDS Baru also expressed support for Sarawak Bumiputera Teachers Association president Ahmad Malie, who said that the shortage of teachers had created problems.
