KUCHING: Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru (PBDSB) wants the Sarawak government to consider giving a monthly allowance of RM500 to housewives in the low income group (B40).

Its Women chief  Sylvia John Gemok said initiatives such as i-Suri (EPF scheme for housewives) should include housewives affected by the movement control order.

“The i-Suri scheme should not be limited to those registered with e-Kasih. Housewives who have dependents, including school-going children under 21 years old and special needs children (OKU), should be given assistance, ” she said in a statement yesterday.

She added that giving financial assistance to large households or those that had disabled family members was necessary to prevent them from sinking into poverty.

“Assistance should be given to those who are the breadwinners of the family. For example, income tax relief for husbands whose wives are working.

“The state government also should claim 50 per cent of oil and gas revenue from Putrajaya in addition to the payment of the state sales tax on oil and gas collected from Petronas to fund more development initiatives.”
