FREE SCHOOL BUS SERVICE

KUCHING: The free school bus service needs more time to improve its services to provide more coverage for students.

Yayasan Sarawak director Azmi Bujang said this during a briefing with Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin and school principals and headmasters at Yayasan Sarawak auditorium at Samariang on Thursday (Sept 10).

“After 12 days of operation, we have reviewed matters pertaining to operation and there are certain zones which have different operations.

“The operational review of zones that cover the city centre (Satok, Matang, Gita and Taman Lee Ling) is because we need a good ratio of students and buses,” he said.

He also looks to improve the optimal zone where there is a need to increase frequency and capacity of buses in the area.

School principals and headmasters also shared their concerns about the collection points, bus routes and the timing of the buses.

“We will review the issues and find better solutions to help improve the bus services.

“We do this for the good of the parents and I hope students will use the free bus service. We will improve the services along the way so that the operation of the bus will run smoothly,” he added.

Also present were representatives from Kuching-Samarahan Divisions Bumiputera School Bus Operators Association and the Sarawak Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB).
