SARIKEI: In fostering the spirit of rescue among children, the Sarikei Fire and Rescue Department has organised the Imtiaz Sarikei Islamic Budding Centre Visit Programme (PASTI) and the ‘Bomba Idolaku’ Programme.

In a news report from the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), the programme was held at Sarikei Fire Station and attended by Sarikei Fire and Rescue Station chief Mahmudin Narudin yesterday.

According to Mahmudin, the department has prepared various activities for the community which focus on the knowledge and scenarios of rescue and fire operations.

“With this knowledge, they can apply it in the event of a fire and these children can also share what they have learned from their parents and family members.

“Children usually panic easily and tend to hide in logically safe places when there is a fire such as under the bed, bedroom or in the bathroom causing them to get trapped,” he said.

He also thanked the teachers and parents who were willing to collaborate with the Fire Department in the programme.
