KUCHING: Giving way to the youth has been a culture in Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), said Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

For the youth to have extensive experience in politics, the GPS chairman disclosed that the party has its own leadership training process which was implemented since the last state election.

“That is why you see in the last election, there are new faces fielding. The seniors retire to give way to the new ones.

“For that I would like to thank them for giving a chance for the young ones,” he said.

He said this when officiating the launching of the GPS Women Machinery at Penview Convention Centre on Today (Oct 30).

Adding on, he said letting the young ones take over has always been a natural thing to do in life.

“It is inevitable for the old ones to grow older, so it is natural that the young ones have to take over. For that, we do train them because without training, they may make wrong decisions.

“That is why I want to train the people who will be our successors including those in the women’s wings as well before we have to say goodbye,” he said.

Having said that, he assured the people that GPS will send high quality and capable candidates – seniors, youth and women – on Nov 5 to contest in the GE15.

“With this, InsyaAllah on Nov 19, with the blessing of God, GPS will secure all 31 seats that we are contesting.

“For that, I seek you (the party members) to put aside our personal differences and other problems and focus on the people’s struggle through GPS.

“Let us win in style and let us determine the leadership of the country. Let us fight together and InsyaAllah, we can make Malaysia a prosperous country,” he said.
