KUCHING: Over 100 local and international boxers are getting ready for the 2nd Edition of the Sarawak Open Boxing Championship 2023 which will be held from August 19 to August 26, 2023, at the Sri Aman Indoor Stadium.

The Sarawak Boxing Association (SABA) president Datuk Rahman Lariwoo said that Indonesia (Batam, Kalimantan), Singapore, Japan, and Thailand have confirmed their participation in this edition.

This time, he said, the competition will showcase several Pro matches involving both international and local boxers.

“Elite and Sukan Malaysia (SUKMA) athletes from all over the state, along with boxers from Batam, Kalimantan, Singapore, Japan, and Thailand, will participate in this edition, which will last for 10 days,” Rahman said in a press conference after chairing the preparatory meeting for the tournament in Sri Aman, recently.

One of the highlights of the event will be the Pro clash between Daeloniel McDelon Bong or ‘Kilat Boy,’ the SUKMA 2022 gold medalist from Sri Aman, and a talented boxer from Thailand, Sonran Sopakul.

The opening ceremony will be officiated by Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Datuk Francis Harden Hollis.

The Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, will preside over the closing ceremony.
