SIBU: The ‘Go Bald 2019’ charity event organised by the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS) here yesterday raised RM87,443.

A total of 105 participants took part in the event   held Delta Mall here yesterday. Eighty-nine were male while the rest were female.

SCCS president Jocelyn Hee thanked Sibu residents, especially the participants, for supporting the programme.

“We are improving the hospital facilities in Kuching and Sibu, followed by a survival programme for the victims of childhood cancer. We are also assisting a research on children’s cancer in Sarawak.

“With that, we can better understand how to support their patients and their families better,” she said.

Hee also took the opportunity to share her 12 years’ experience as a SCCS volunteer.

“I have remained a volunteer because of a boy who touched my heart.

“I was with him in the few last months before he died of cancer. I tried to make him happy and feel he was a very special child,” she said.

“Although he is no longer here, I still value the privilege of walking with him during his last few moments and that’s what I want to do for the children with cancer in Sarawak,” she explained.

Present at the event were SCCS advisor Lorna Chan and SCCS coordinator of Sibu Pan Kiew Chuang.
