BETONG: Sarawak’s emphasis on the digital economy can be exploited to  develop its agricultural sector.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said the state’s digitalisation programme can be adopted by players in the industry for efficient modern commercial farming methods.

“We can use digital economy to access global markets for our products. We could then be a more progressive society and by 2030 we could be a net exporter of food products,” he said when attending a Gawai Antu ceremony at former deputy chief minister Tan Sri Alfred Jabu ‘s longhouse  in Gensurai, Layar yesterday.

Johari said the government would upgrade existing digital facilities, adding that more infrastructural facilities, including a rural airport would be implemented.

He assured that the government would continue to strengthen the development of the digital economy, noting that rural youth were now becoming more computer-literate .

The chief minister announced a grant of RM375,000 to the longhouse.
