Go for US Space Camp exchange programme

KUALA LUMPUR: Students from Malaysia will have an opportunity to attend the Advanced Space Academy at Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama, in summer 2020, said the United States (US) Ambassador to Malaysia, Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir.

In her special media announcement yesterday, Kamala said the US Embassy in collaboration with the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and #mydigitalmaker Association network, are working to recruit young leaders between the age of 15 to 18 to attend the 2020 Space Camp Exchange Program.

“In conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the Apollo Moon Landing, the embassy had been organising series of programmes that promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education and also studying in the US to Malaysian youth through a campaign called ‘Beyond the Moon’.

“We are excited about this hands-on educational experience for Malaysian and encourage them (youth) to apply for this amazing once in a lifetime opportunity when it (space camp application) opens later this year,” she said during her visit to the #mydigitalmaker Fair 2019 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec).

Also present was Minister of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Yeo Bee Yin.

Elaborating, Kamala said the programme was aimed at highlighting US support for STEM education in Malaysia and expose the participants to American culture through science and cultural exchange.

She also reminded Malaysian students to stay updated about all the details of the programme that would be opened very soon and be broadcasted on the US Embassy and the #mydigitalmaker websites, as well as its social media channels. – Bernama
