LUNDU: A group of eight illegal immigrants, including a woman, whose attempt to enter the state illegally was foiled by the General Operations Force (GOF) today.

GOF Sarawak Brigade commander SAC Mancha Ata said the incident happened at 6.45am in Kampung Biawak here.

A patrol team detained and inspected the individuals, comprising seven men and a woman, believed to be Indonesians, who were trying to enter Malaysia via a rat trail (jalan tikus).

“Inspections found that all of them had failed to show any valid travel documents,” Mancha said, adding that they were later ordered to return to their country of origin using the same route.

The immigrants have committed offenses under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342) and Section 6 (1) of the Immigration Act 1959 (Act 155).
