LUNDU: The General Operations Force (GOF) arrested six undocumented foreigners in an operation codenamed “Ops Benteng Covid” on Thursday (Sept 3).

Sarawak GOF Brigade commander SAC Mancha Ata said the operation was carried out at 12.30am on two houses located at Kampung Kendaie oil palm plantation, here.

During an inspection made in the operation, the GOF team found six foreigners inside two separate and illegally built garden houses.

“They comprised four men, a woman and a child. All did not have any identification documents or valid entry travel documents.

“According to information shared by the villagers, the foreigners were also suspected of working by stealing oil palm fresh fruit bunches from plantations in the village area for sale,” Mancha said in a statement.

He pointed out that the arrests were made under Section 6 (1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, and all were handed over to the Lundu district police headquarters (IPD) for further actions.

If convicted, they are punishable under Section 6 (3) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155) which carries a fine of not more than RM10,000 or imprisonment not exceeding five years, or both, and can be sentenced to whipping of not more than six strokes.
