KUCHING: The idea of converting the old Mukah Airport into a race track is a good suggestion, said Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

Having said that, the Youth and Sports Minister noted that he is unsure whether the state government has other plans.

“I think this is a good idea, especially for those who are interested in motorsports. However, I am not sure whether the state government has other plans for the site, because if we look at Bintulu, when its new airport began operations, there were other commercial plans and such for the old airport,” he said when met by reporters yesterday (June 28).

It was recently reported that Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi supported the suggestions for the old Mukah Airport to be turned into a race track.

He added that it would fulfil the dreams of the youth in Mukah who wanted a race track, and that motorsports is a healthy activity if implemented in accordance with the laws and regulations.
