Government incurs lower medical bills

KUCHING: Statistics have shown that medical bills for chronic illnesses are declining.

Sarawak Human Resource Unit director Ismail Mohamad Hanis said in 2017, a total of 344 patients (2.36 per cent) received treatments that involved expenditures totalling RM3,865,135.

“In 2018, the figure decreased to 71 patients (0.5 per cent) with expenditures totalling RM1,197,643.

“As of November 2019, the decreasing pattern have shown that patients are down to 47 (0.3 per cent) with RM510,671 spent,” he said during the closing ceremony of Sarawak Civil Service Health Carnival 2019 held at the old State Legislative Assembly (DUN), in Petra Jaya yesterday. 

State Secretary Datuk Amar Jaul Samion who officiated at the closing ceremony, said the Sarawak government was spending millions of ringgit on medical bills for state civil servants every year.

“This shows that our government is taking good care of its workforce and pensioners.”

Jaul, however reminded state civil servants to take good care of their health by living healthy lifestyle.
