KUCHING: The area between Segedup and Sungai Maong here will be opened up as the Sarawak government is building a new road as well as houses in the area.

Abang Johari delivers his speech at the event.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the distance from Sungai Maong and Segedup to Satok will be closer once the road is completed.

“We are going to build the road, and once completed, we are going to develop a new housing scheme between Segedup and Sungai Maong.

“This housing project under the Sarawak Land and Survey Department will start with 600 units,” he said during the 12th state election thanksgiving and appreciation ceremony for Satok constituency at Pullman Hotel here on Saturday evening.

He said that these houses, once completed, would be able to benefit the second generation family.

“Therefore, once the proposed Jalan Sungai Maong to Segedup is expedited, this will open up the area,” he said.

The chief minister added that the Sarawak government was helping house buyers especially the B40 and M40 group to pay deposits up to a maximum of RM10,000 for houses priced below RM300,000.

“This Housing Deposit Assistance Scheme (HDAS) starts in January this year and this is our policy to help the B40 and M40 group,” he explained.

Abang Johari, who is former Satok assemblyman, assured that Satok constituency would continue to develop under his successor Datuk Ibrahim Baki.

“Ibrahim has helped me and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) leadership in Satok to serve the people in Satok.

“So, when I moved to Gedong, I felt that Ibrahim is the right person to continue to bring development and serve the people in Satok,” he said.

He added that Satok has seen tremendous development as the constituency was developed from time to time.

“It has developed until it became an urban centre and the businesses are mainly carried out by the Chinese.
