SARIKEI: The government has approved a proposal to provide utility and communication facilities at the Sungai Baji Agro Park project site here.

This latest move is in line with the government’s efforts to make the area a modern agricultural location in the centre of Sarawak.

Minister of Utilities and Telecommunication Datuk Julaihi Narawi said the site also needs adequate water and electricity supply apart from a road network and communication system.

“I have instructed that all these requirements be approved to enable the plan to become a reality. We will also discuss the various things needed to develop this area.

“We also provide technical advice on water supply, electricity and so on,” he said during a visit to the site yesterday.

The implementation of the high-impact project will be an important platform for local farmers to explore methods on modern farming thus strengthening their ability to penetrate the global market.

The existence of the Sungai Baji Agro Park also proves the determination of the Sarawak government to achieve the goal of making the state a net food producer and exporter by 2030.
