PADAWAN: The Sarawak government has approved an allocation of RM126 million to implement a water supply project in the Mambong consituency.

The Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) quoted Deputy Minister of Transport (Aviation and Road) Datuk Dr Jerip Susil as saying the project will benefit villages which have yet to get treated clean water.

He named these as Kampung Bangau, Kampung Sitang, Kampung Petag and several other villages in the Annah Biya area at the handing over of certificates of appointment to tribal chiefs for the year 2023 at Kampung Bangau Multipurpose Hall, recently.

Jerip added that the same allocation will also be used to improve water pressure in Kampung Jambu.

In another development, he proposed a Kampung Sejahtera competition in line with the need to create a clean, beautiful village to attract tourists to the constituency.

He also called on all residents to give their cooperation to the newly appointed tribal chiefs in order to continue developing their villages.

Jorum Marer was appointed as Kampung Simboh tribal chief and Harry Simak was named chief of Kampung Bangau.

Also present were Padawan Sub-District Administrative Officer Julius Scott Sapong, Bidayuh Temengong of Kuching Division Datuk Austin Dining Niyon and Pemanca Bidayuh Kuching Division Raymond Jihap.
