SIBU: Local Government and Housing Assistant Minister Dr Annuar Rapaee did not rule out the possibility that the Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration this year may be held in strict compliance of the standard operating procedures (SOPs).

He said this would happen provided the number of Covid-19 cases in the state continues to show an increase.

“For this year’s Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration, we have to look at the development of the situation in a few days.

“If the situation gets worse, the government may consider some limitations during the Aidiladha celebration later.

“It is not a cancellation, but limiting the celebration by not celebrating on a large scale,” he told reporters when met at the Kampung Nangka Rainbow Foodkiosk pre-launch ceremony at Jalan Kampung Nangka here on Saturday (Jul 18).

Earlier, he was asked by reporters whether there was a possibility of the Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration in the state being cancelled if the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak continues to worsen.

He explained that the state government has taken proactive steps by postponing school sessions in areas such as Kuching.

In this regard, Dr Annuar urged the public to continue to abide by the SOPs and avoid visiting crowded public areas.

“We have seen that recently, Covid-19 cases have increased in Sarawak, especially in Kuching. This shows that we have not been able to solve the problem as a whole.

“However, if society complies with the SOPs, maybe we can overcome this problem.

“So far we have succeeded, but have not won,” said the Nangka assemblyman.
