SIBU: St Victoria’s Church, located at Sungai Igan here, recently celebrated the completion of its building expansion.

The church’s expansion was carried out in order to accommodate the growing number of Christians in the area.

Present to officiate at the event was Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan branch chairman Robert Lau.

The expansion project costs RM60,000, which was funded by the state government following a positive effort from Lau in assisting with financial aid applications.

At the function, Lau, who is also the deputy chairman of Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC), handed over Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government development funds to 93 families in the council hall.

SUPP Bawang Assan expressed its gratitude towards the GPS government under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg for its concern towards the people of Bawang Assan by providing financial assistance.

Lau therefore called on Sarawakians to give their strong support to the GPS candidates in the upcoming election.

“SUPP has been working continuously in Bawang Assan for decades and this effort will continue,” he said.

At the same time, he also emphasised his strong effort in defending the rights and interests of Sarawakians.
