KUCHING: The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) has accepted DAP’s apology to the state ruling coalition and the people of Sarawak without any condition.

Premier Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the state government did not request or demand anything from DAP; as the bottom-line would be the apology.

“We accepted it with an open manner. What’s most important to us is that they have already apologised, which shows that we are right all the time; all the way.

“So, our politics is clean; it is their politics that is not clean,” he said at a press conference after a GPS meeting held at the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) headquarters here today.

He was referring to DAP national chairman Lim Guan Eng who had apologised publicly via this Facebook account today to Abang Johari and GPS, for the former’s ‘offensive remarks’ in the past.

Apart from that, secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook flown to Kuching this morning, to meet GPS leaders, including Abang Johari and SUPP President Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, to offer his apology on behalf of his party leaders for their previous ‘hurtful statements’.

“Yes, he came to see us and acknowledged his party’s mistakes in the past. So, from now on, we want his party to respect us and all the GPS component parties, especially SUPP,” he stressed,

When asked if DAP invited GPS to be part of the federal government, Abang Johari said the meeting was merely to admit their mistakes as they hoped to “build bridges with GPS and move forward”.

“But, they know the number (of MPs) we have,” he said, referring to 23 Members of Parliament (MPs) in Sarawak, which plays a crucial role to ensure a strong and stable federal government.

As for the state DAP, he said, the Padungan assemblyman Chong Chieng Jen and Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong will remain as the opposition in Sarawak.

“Yes, the two seats still belong to the opposition (at the state level). As for the cooperation on the federal level, we will leave it to the prime minister,” he added.

Among those present at the meeting were Sim, Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing and Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum.
