SIBURAN: Puncak Borneo elected Member of Parliament (MP) Datuk Willie Mongin attributed his victory in retaining his seat to the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in the 15th general election (GE15).

He said the GPS machinery and the cooperation of the fellow assemblymen under his constituency has contributed to his soaring success.

Willie said the seat was secured due to the endless support of the state coalition and his constituency’s assemblymen from Tarat, Mambong and Serumbu, besides the party supporters.

The Party Pesaka Bumiputra Bersatu (PBB) candidate is determined to bring more development to Puncak Borneo.

“This victory will allow me to continue serving to realise the development agenda in Puncak Borneo,” he said at the SMK Siburan vote tallying centre last night (Nov 19).

“I also want to thank all the voters in Puncak Borneo. This is a complete collaboration that has succeeded in forging a great success,” he said.

To his opponents, Willie said it was a fair and clean competition among them, adding that democracy is still alive in Malaysia.

“Even though we competed in the election, we are still good friends,” he added.

Willie returned the trust of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg by winning the Puncak Borneo seat under GPS and escalated the party’s strength.

He garnered 29,457 of total votes with a 13,338-vote majority, giving him a fairly huge success.

The incumbent defeated Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) candidate from PKR Diog Dios who garnered 16,119 votes and Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) candidate Iana Akam who got 5,578 votes.
