KUCHING: Gabungan Party Sarawak (GPS) has yet to finalise its candidates to be fielded in the 15th General Election (GE15).

GPS chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said he is still waiting for the list of candidates to be vetted by relevant agencies.

He said the list of names must be vetted by the Election Commision (EC), Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC), and Malaysian Department of Insolvency.

“I do not have the list as the candidates need to be vetted through by them.

“So I am waiting for them to submit the list to me,” he said when met by reporters after attending the Diwali celebration hosted by lawyer Shankar Ram at King’s Curry on Monday (Oct 24).

Adding on, he confirmed that each of the component parties have submitted their own list of candidates.

“But you know, each (parliamentary) constituency has two or three candidates. So I have to pick one… in case we have to select one of them,” he said.

Meanwhile, Abang Johari remained tight lipped when asked whether Santubong incumbent Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar will be defending his seat in the upcoming general election.

“I do not know (whether he will be contesting or not). You ask him first lah,” he replied.
