KUCHING: The Sarawakku Sayang Special Assistance (BKSS 6.0) financial package shows the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government is ever ready to the rescue during difficult times amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

Balai Ringin assemblyman Datuk Snowdan Lawan said the state government aid was very timely and Sarawakian can rest assured their welfare was being taken care of.

“In the BKSS 6.0 package worth RM1.4 billion unveiled by the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, different types of aid are given to Sarawakians.

“A large number of the population affected by the movement control order (MCO) will benefit from the incentives. All these are to ease and mitigate the financial burden faced by the people,” he told New Sarawak Tribune yesterday (May 29).

The Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth chief said it also showed that the state government is people-centric and cares for the people, and has been assisting the people all along and not only at this point of time.

“This BKSS of RM1.4 billion is on top of the existing and ongoing RM3.1 billion announced earlier, making it a total of RM4.5 billion entirely from our state coffer.

“As such, people would have known by now that Sarawak has the financial means to support its obligation when it comes to people’s welfare,” he said.

He said that indirectly, it meant that the State Sales Tax (SST) on petroleum products and the money collected was going back to the people.

“Thanks to our chief minister for his foresight in pursuing our state’s rights in oil and gas and now the people are the real beneficiaries,” he said.

Abang Johari had on Friday unveiled the BKSS 6.0 worth RM1.4 billion to help Sarawakians during the two-week MCO which runs until June 11 to curb the spread of Covid-19.
