KUCHING: The wake-up call by Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chief whip in Parliament Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof to all Sarawakians received strong support from its members.

However, this was not the case for Pakatan Harapan (PH) Sarawak that disagree with Fadillah’s warning that if Sarawakians allow PH to win the 2021 State Election, its immigration and oil rights would be stripped.

When met after the assembly sitting yesterday, Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Assistant Minister Datuk Len Talif Salleh reminded people to be mindful of what PH says, which may not be good for the people.

“What Fadillah said could possibly happen if we ever allow PH to take over the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN),” he stressed.

Political analyst Datuk Peter Minos said as PH has been in the office for a year now, they have treated Sarawak very badly, like a ‘step-child’.

“You can see for yourselves; they cancelled all the allocations which were meant for development.

“All these while have they kept their promises to Sarawak?… No!” he said.

“I fully support him (Fadillah). We will be finished if PH wins the state election, imagine our immigration power and even land rights might be stripped off,” said Minos.

Meanwhile, Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang said Sarawak cannot afford to be the next Sabah in losing its immigration autonomy.

“Just look at Sabah, they have lost their immigration rights because the DUN in Sabah consists of many West Malaysian parties.

“Last time their big boss was Umno, and now it’s PH. So, what is the difference between those two?” he asked, adding that Sabah now is in a very dangerous position.

Lo added if PH wins, PH Sarawak would have to listen to their “big boss”, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, and queried if they will look after Sarawak.

“Sarawakians must make sure PH cannot form the next state government.”

Son of the late chief minister Pehin Sri Adenan Satem, Azizul Annuar Adenan, who also echoed the views of GPS members stressed Sarawak must only be governed by Sarawak-based parties formed by Sarawakians.

“I completely agree with him (Fadillah), and from my point of view, seeing PH’s actions or through their statement, nothing is certain.

“It is still a Malaya-based party and if our state goes in the wrong hands, PH Sarawak will have to follow their West Malaysian counterparts and have no say in matters related to Sarawak and its people,” he pointed out.

For GPS to remain as the state government come election, Azizul said at least they can stand on their own and protest for what it right.

Earlier, in a press conference, Pelawan assemblyman David Wong told reporters that what Fadillah had said showed that GPS has no confident in the coming state election.

“This kind of conspiracy theory shows that they are bankrupt of ideas. And what they are doing is actually a fear tactic,” he said.
