KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) made a decision to support Perikatan Nasional (PN) because it prioritised saving Malaysia from the political unrest through the appointment of the eighth prime minister.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg pointed out that the nation had endured a week of having no prime minister while many fought amongst themselves.

“They were arguing for one week and the country was in chaos. We wanted to be peace-makers.

“I say we put the country and the people first. Not individuals who are fighting for power,” he said.

He said this when officiating at the launch of Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) Wawasan Ummah Gemilang 20-30 at Kompleks Islam Sarawak hall here yesterday.

He said it was with the mandate given to him by Sarawakians as the chief minister that he made the decision to support PN and choose Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister.

“Sarawakians saved Malaysia from the political turmoil,” said Abang Johari.
