KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will remain focused in continuing to fight and pursue the rights and autonomy of Sarawak.

Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said after 55 years, GPS was finally free on its own rather than being in a national coalition, which was crucial for Sarawak to achieve the ‘Sarawak First’ agenda.

“Many others will appear only around election time with promises, such as (before this the promises) on the 20 per cent oil royalties, RM2,000 assistance for Sarawakians and no PTPTN,” he said in his Facebook on Monday (Aug 17).

GPS would continue to focus in defending Sarawak’s rights in accordance with the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), he assured.

“We will continue to develop Sarawak. Among them is through infrastructure such as roads, ART, water and electricity supply.”

Dr Sim, who is also Batu Kawah assemblyman, said Sarawak’s budget reached RM10 billion for the first time last year, and in the next few years it would continue to grow significantly.

“Imagine after 2025, no need to spend significantly on infrastructure…truly the best of Sarawak yet to come.”

He added that among the other Sarawak First agenda was also to share Sarawak’s wealth and prosperity with its people.

“On Sarawak’s security, we will continue to set up coast guard and border team and more.”

He urged Sarawakians to remain united and not let outsiders break the unity.

“Look at West Malaysia, when they ‘pecah’ (not united), they need Sarawak. If Sarawak ‘pecah’, we will be in a similar predicament, we will need West Malaysia.”
